Noliel, (pronounced: /ˈnoʊliɛl/ NOH-lee-el or: /ˈnoʊljʌl/ NOH-lyul), previously Leilon, was originally a humble mining town, in the realm of Toril, that once provided a welcome haven for tired travellers. However, it underwent a remarkable transformation when the entire Sword Coast merged with another realm during a Nexus event from the new world. With the addition of three magnificent pyramids, Noliel emerged as its new nation's premier tourist destination, captivating visitors from all over Tol'Nova.

Amidst the darkness, I rise as the flame of Azar, embodying the unwavering light of justice. With sword and shield, I shall defend the weak, vanquish the wicked, and forge a brighter future. Let the fires of Azar guide our way."

Phoenix Draven, Paladin of Azar and Leader of the Shadowhand Syndicate

Geography

Noliel, a former mining town known for its thriving trade in copper, nickel, and silver, also served as a vital port for merchants. Due to the town's shallow mud flats, larger ships often offloaded their goods onto barges, which were then transported to coastal cities.

However, everything changed with the Nexus event, a cataclysmic event that forever altered the landscape surrounding Noliel. In the face of this transformation, the city embraced the opportunity for new beginnings, distancing itself from the triumphs and tribulations of its past.

During this transformative period, the Shadowhand Syndicate, a powerful guild, expanded its influence into Noliel. They provided unprecedented protection and stability to the town, fostering an environment of security and growth. It was during this time that a member of the syndicate stumbled upon a cache of magical beans. Recognizing the potential, they planted these beans, resulting in the emergence of three extraordinary pyramids at the entrance of the town.

These pyramids became iconic symbols of Noliel, attracting visitors from far and wide. The town experienced a rapid expansion in both physical size and population as people flocked to witness the enigmatic power of these mystical structures. The Shadowhand Syndicate played a pivotal role in the town's prosperity, fostering an environment that encouraged trade, cultural exchange, and protection.

History

Leilon, founded in the year 1357 DR, was a settlement with a rich history in the old world.

Leilon's defining landmark, the High Tower of Thalivar, was constructed in the late 13th century DR by the wizard Thalivar. However, the wizard disappeared soon after, leaving the tower abandoned.

In 1358 DR, Leilon faced challenges when lizardfolk were spotted crossing the River Dessarin, and raiders invaded the town, causing significant damage and casualties. This event led to tensions with neighbouring cities like Luskan and Ruathym.

The Spellplague of 1385 DR unleashed the tower's guardians, wreaking havoc in the village. The magical forces from the tower paralyzed those who gazed upon it, leading to the abandonment of Leilon.

By 1485 DR, Lord Dagult Neverember ordered the tower's destruction to enhance trade along the High Road to Neverwinter. This effort resulted in the town's restoration and repopulation under Neverwinter's rule.

In the early 1490s DR, conflict arose between two cults over the tower's magical power: one devoted to Talos and conquest, and the other to resurrect the dracolich Ebondeath for Myrkul's glory. The clash culminated in the Battle of Leilon, a three-way battle and siege in the town.

During the momentous Nexus event, the entire coastline of the Sword Coast was abruptly shifted from the realm of Toril to the mysterious world of Nexia. This dramatic occurrence reshaped the geography of the region and forever separated the town and its inhabitants from their former home. Consequently, Leilon was renamed Noliel in this new realm.

Two years later, in the 4th Age, Year 5, the Great Pyramids mysteriously appeared, adding a touch of mystique and wonder to Noliel.

Eventually, in the 4th Age, Year 10, Tiamat, the fearsome dragon goddess, returned, marking a significant turning point in the world's history and undoubtedly affecting Noliel and its inhabitants.

Defences

Noliel relies on its vigilant City Guard to maintain order and respond swiftly to threats. These well-trained defenders patrol the streets, protect key areas, and enforce justice. Alongside them, The Shadowhand Syndicate operates with exceptional stealth, ensuring the safety of Noliel's citizens and leaving no room for criminals to hide in the shadows.

In times of great danger, the Temple of Nemesis Cain and its army of dedicated Paladins emerge. Inspired by the principles of justice and retribution, these holy warriors join forces with the City Guard and The Shadowhand Syndicate. Together, they form an unyielding alliance, working harmoniously to protect Noliel from all harm.

With the combined efforts of the City Guard, The Shadowhand Syndicate, and the Paladins of the Temple of Nemesis Cain, Noliel remains a stronghold of peace and justice, united against any threat that may arise.
