The Irda City
Irdivine (pronounced ER-di-vine), the City of Magic, ascends majestically atop one of the twin flat-topped mountains of Mount Elysium. Renowned for the prestigious Spellborn Academy — a beacon of arcane learning and mystical pursuits — the city is enveloped in an almost perpetual shimmer of magical essence. It stands as a pivotal centre of sorcery and enchantment, drawing aspirants and scholars from distant realms to delve into its secrets and wonders.
Irdivine is perched atop the monumental Mount Elysium, part of a majestic mountain range that also hosts the city of Endora to the north. A magical barrier shields the city from harsh winter extremes, ensuring a stable temperate climate year-round. The topography includes expansive grasslands, lush forests, and extensive cave systems used for storage, secret meetings, and emergency shelters. Terraced farming practices maximise the arable land available on the mountaintop.
The ruins of the old Mage College stand as sombre reminders of past conflict, while the newly erected Spellborn Academy has become the city's crown jewel. Access to Irdivine is restricted to two mountain paths — one ascending the western side near the south, another on the northeastern face — ensuring the city remains a secluded sanctuary protected by both geography and magical prowess.
2485
The Irda founded Irdivine atop Mount Elysium as a sanctuary where the arts, academia, and magic could flourish unimpeded by the broader conflicts of the world. Khaleesi led survivors from her destroyed village and a nearby elven settlement to safety on the mountain, giving birth to the city.
2619
Nemesis Cain, ruler of Pandoria, brought Irdivine, Draco's Den, Khazammar, and Sirocco Springs together to forge the Pandorian Alliance. Khaleesi signed the accord alongside Archdrake Faith of Draco's Den, King Thrain Ironfist of Khazammar, and Pharaoh Agni Shaaro of Sirocco Springs. The alliance promised mutual benefits through exchanged goods and shared knowledge.
3847
Undead forces surged from the west while barbarian hordes attacked from the east. Irdivine, alongside the Pandorian Empire, helped repel the assault. The combined threat tested the city's defences and alliance to their limits.
3848
The rise of Nemesis Cain as Emperor of Pandoria brought the 3rd Age to a close, stabilising the region and heralding a period of imperial consolidation and peace.
Year 3
The Agents of Chaos directed both the Crimson Cartel and an undead horde — the Dead of Irdivine — to converge on the Mage College, devastating it completely. In the wake of this calamity, compounded by the Pandorian Empire's failure to assist, Irdivine and Prince Auryn Cain decisively severed all ties with the empire.
Year 31
The grand opening of the Spellborn Academy marked a rebirth of magic and knowledge in Irdivine — a monument to the city's resilience and its unyielding commitment to arcane scholarship.
Irdivine operates under a unique royal system called The Khalasar, which blends traditional monarchical elements with a leadership model based on popular acclaim. Unlike typical monarchies, rulers are chosen for their virtue and ability to govern with kindness and compassion — the well-being of the people is paramount.
KhaleesiFounder and sole monarch of Irdivine, Khaleesi rose to leadership through heroic deed — protecting her people after the destruction of their village and leading them to safety atop Mount Elysium. Her husband, a Tiefling known as Consort Khal, supports her in governance, providing a balanced perspective in the city's leadership. Their daughter, Khalakki, is being groomed to inherit the throne and uphold the values of The Khalasar.
Irdivine stands as a vibrant hub of commerce, uniquely positioned atop Mount Elysium. With no direct port access, the city relies on well-maintained mountain paths and magical transportation — enchanted carriages and magical constructs — to facilitate trade. Secure trading posts at both the western and northern mountain paths serve as transfer points between terrestrial and aerial transport.
The city is celebrated for its exports of enchanted artefacts, magical tomes, and alchemical potions, all in high demand across the realms. Key imports include spices, herbs, textiles, and metals not readily available on the mountain. The Trade Council, composed of mages and merchants, regulates all commercial activity. Major trade partners include Endora and Mythharbor.
In Irdivine, where magic predominates over religious devotion, worship is not a central aspect of daily life. However, a subset of the population honours Acheron, the God of the Veil — a former student of the now-destroyed Mage College who represents the bridge between the arcane and the divine, overseeing secrets and the boundary between visible and invisible realms.
Acheron's followers, primarily ex-mages and scholars, incorporate elements of arcane knowledge into their religious rituals. These rites — involving elaborate magical artefacts and secretive ceremonies — are typically conducted in concealed areas such as the Spellborn Academy's hidden chambers. Though few in number, Acheron's adherents subtly influence Irdivine's culture. Irdivine's policies of tolerance ensure that even in a city dominated by magical pursuits, diverse beliefs are respected and protected.
